Upcoming: Home School Aquatics - September 22-October 22 I teach the Red Cross swim lessons for levels 1-4 to homeschoolers ages 3-high school at the Shepherd University Wellness Center in Shepherdstown, WV.  Children love learning how to swim so...it can also be a great topic for homeschool creative writing.😊

Ongoing Events

Good News Club® is a ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship in which trained teachers meet with groups of children in schools, homes, community centers, churches, just about anywhere the children can easily and safely meet with their parent’s permission. I have taught in Good News Clubs for a dozen years and have led our local Boonsboro, MD club for several years. I am happy to offer my “in the field” recommendations to anyone interested in starting a Good News Club. The curriculum is excellent, and children really enjoy participating.

Writers' Workshop for Homeschoolers: May 13th, 18th, 20th, 23rd and 24th
This workshop met in person this May in Sharpsburg, MD. Children progressed nicely and formed a good group of boys and girls ages 8-14.
Each day we focused on a different writing style and how the students could see ways to include a Christian worldview in their writing. Here's what some parents said--
"You helped my oldest break through his writing block and get excited about writing again."
"Your encouragement and support with all my girls motivated them and excited them to write. They have loved the creative aspect, with learning how to incorporate Jesus and their faith into their stories."
"It was a game changer for my son’s writing.”
"I love your heart and desire to teach in such a special way. And if it couldn't get any better, the "cost" is a donation to Compassion International, an organization that our family loves."
One student shared, "I like that it was still like school and learning but we could have fun."

I invite you to see the July blog post on this website that features one of the student's story. If you are interested in scheduling a Christian Writers' Workshop for students who are middle graders or older, please contact me here.

March 10, 2022 - Guest Blog for Healthy Living Series
I wrote an article to help others learn how to enjoy and have the fruits of their labor by starting a backyard vegetable garden. This can be a great family activity and offer lots of fun journal and science writing ideas for children and teens.

Recently, I was interviewed by Cynthia L. Simmons on “The Heart of the Matter” on how to help children with adjusting to big changes. Whenever our kids face change, they experience stress too. We discussed helpful tips that manage the transition through hard times.

July 25, 2021 - LightLab Church Camp at St. Paul's Episcopal Church
In Summer 2021, I team led LightLab Church Camp Facebook live presentations for children, one of which is on YouTube—Lightlab Church Camp July 5, 2021. We also had in person hands-on science lessons with Bible lessons to explore the nature of light and how Jesus is the Light of the World. Lightlab by Suzanne O. Shera is a great book for children for the science of light and Bible lessons. I encourage you to check it out and be blessed.
