Developing Youth as Christian Authors

Picture
I am Heidi Vertrees, Author & Educator!
newSong Press is delighted to launch this resource for young authors, their parents, pastors, teachers and mentors. I am dedicated to helping young authors look honestly and creatively at life and tell vivid stories from a Christian worldview.

I also help parents, teachers and mentors to nurture young writers to enrich their reading and especially their authorship skills. For more information, please contact me directly.

Young Christians bring fresh and candid views about how Jesus still works in the world. He PROMISES to be with us as we face our challenges, setbacks, successes and joys.

Sometimes when we least expect it, Jesus
  • turns trouble into good
  • brings blessings. small and large
  • uses faithful people to help others
  • ensures love at last overcomes hate
  • offers generosity to those in need
  • strengthens us when we are fearful or sad
  • inspires us to write our stories--the people, the places, the scenes we see
  • loves us when we make mistakes
  • and reveals the many ways that God gives our lives purpose.

Young authors, hold onto your hats! Get out your spyglass, your pen and your keyboard! Your prayers and your Bible!
Your honesty,
your thinking,
your creativity!

Adventures ahead!

"VICTOR" RECEIVES
2021 Middle Grade Book Award
2022 Catholic Press Award

Victor Ortega is like any other kid until his world is turned upside down! His father must return to Mexico to care for Victor's sick grandfather. Victor must change schools in Colorado, and without his father, his mother urges him to "be a man." Then in nonstop action, he must face a tough bully and overcome fear in the freezing mountains at night.

Will he get a message to his father to come home!? Will his new friend return, as well? Will Victor and the bully –in a twist of fate–outrun the kidnapper?

Will Victor's faith, family and friends be enough to carry him through?
